Hello fellow Humans!
I thought I would begin with an inspiring quote on reading but then there are so many and they are all so relatably true that I thought I’d give you a link containing all of them just in case:
Well, that’s just how I am. Please do not run away yet.
I have always found reading to be fascinating i.e beyond the ordinary. Every time you read, you get a perspective. There’s no cure for a block that’s as good as reading unless you have a reading-block. Reading is to mind what turmeric is to home-remedies. it goes with everything.
These are desperate times and nations are locked down due to the current COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. If you are suffering from a block then here are 10 books that I would recommend with the same sincerity with which I run my business and my mouth.
These are all non-fiction books that will be helpful in every step of your business as well as your life (if you know how to and I am sure that you will, once you finish reading all of them).
Do not worry, neither of them are ‘motivational’ books. If you are wondering why they aren’t then you will find the answer in one of the books as well. They are all either well researched or hold a different perspective from the usual ones that you have been told about. So, without further ado, I begin with my recommendations:
- The Go-Giver by Bob Burg
This book is a discussion between a mentor (known as The Chairman) and a student who is ambitious and yet fails to make an impact in his profession. He teaches him 5 laws of life. These 5 laws are so human in nature that it is only when we go through the book do we realize that we’ve all encountered them in our lives too many times that it almost always went unnoticed.
I personally love the book very much because of the personification of all the laws and how important they are not only professionally but personally as well. This is why I always ask each of my ‘valuable’ employees to go through this book. download this book Click Here
- Start with Why by Simon Sinek
Are you a Business Owner? Then this book is for you.
Are you into Sales? Then this book is for you.
Are you human? Then this book is definitely for you.
We are humans and as humans, everything we do needs to have a story because we cannot survive without proper reason for everything we do. We are bound by it. Even the businesses we do or indulge in needs to have a story to succeed and our consumers, customers, clients, etc etc etc need to be sold a story for them to get in.
What Simon Sinek talks about in this gem of a book is about being the leader of the pack and he has great examples to prove his well-researched theory. This book is a must for everyone who wants to lead a group of people, rather be responsible for any group of people.
It completely changed how we lead and make decisions within our company. I would recommend it to anyone who can imagine themselves to be an entrepreneur, boss, leader or manager. download this book Click Here
- The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber
“This book shows how to work on your business, not in it.” said a reader.
In a discussion between the mentor and a young female banker, the former explains why most businesses fail and how starting a business might be one of the worst jobs you can create for yourself, the 3 different personalities a founder must-have: the technician, manager and innovator, and that balance is the key.
“If your business depends on you, you don’t own a business—you have a job. And it’s the worst job in the world because you’re working for a lunatic!” – An excerpt from the book. download this book Click Here
- Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the creator of Nike by Phil Knight
This book is really close to my heart. Phil Knight pours out his emotions of being a founder: living with always a risk, money problems, growth issues, and dealing with all of them on a daily basis. It gave me the strength to look back at life at a time when I felt that I’d hit rock-bottom.
Also, the happiness and excitement of finding brothers in the team, knowing how a company becomes your family isn’t just a personal thing and that most of us who own a company go through similar lines shows the side that people normally do not talk about. It is this humanness of the book that keeps me grounded every time.
I’d definitely recommend this to everyone who owns a business. The words will wrap you like a warm blanket on chilly nights. There’s warmth and I hope you find it. download this book Click here
- The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz
A book for a founder from a founder.
People who know me will know this that my approach to any situation or problem is “MY FAULT FIRST”. That’s where my introspection begins. Horowitz also says in the book, “Note to self: It’s a good idea to ask, “What am I not doing?”.”
When in difficult times and positions, this book is a guide for all the founders and co-founders. It’s not a Bible. It’s the Lord for it guides your will.
No, I am not being religious. But if you believe in the quote that says “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” then this book is definitely for you. download this book Click Here
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
I rate this book 100 out of 10. Yes, you heard it right. It’s 10 times better than the book you think is 10 times better than anything.
If you read the book you will understand what I am trying to say.
I would any given day recommend this one to all my fellow humans. Anyone who wants to understand how our society is what it is today, where we are going and how we got here as a race i.e human race, what our basic instincts are and more has to go through this to get a perspective they wouldn’t have imagined of. History was far from kind to us and yet we came out as the most poignant species of all.
Sapiens can be your perfect quarantine/lockdown partner. download this book Click Here
- ReWork: Change the way you work forever by David Heinemeier Hansson and Jason Fried
ReWork shows you that you need less than you think to start a business – way less – by explaining why plans are actually harmful, how productivity isn’t a result from working long hours and why hiring and seeking investors should be your absolute last resort.
Ever been through any similar situations? Of course, you have! Read it, please. download this book Click here
- The Motivation Myth by Jeff Haden
How many times have you been actually motivated by a speech or a book into doing something that gave you actual results for a long time and helped you make a habit out of it?
Most people listen to motivational speakers to get themselves motivated. Jeff Haden quite subtly bursts that bubble for them. He proves that motivation is more of an aftereffect of a small success than an actual starting point and it is these little steps that lead to success rather than one big motivated leap. download book here Click here
- Essentialism: The disciplined pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown
Another dilemma, another book. Most times in an attempt to thrive within the industry we resort to all sorts of buying and instead of getting us the desired result, the plan ends up backfiring. A lot of us have this habit of getting things or filling up positions or roles that we do not need in the first place.
Essentialism shows you a new approach to productivity and life by allowing you to be extremely selective about the essential things in your life and then ruthlessly cutting out everything else.
Unlike minimalism, it’s not about socking on the bone and going minimal on everything. It’s a more practical approach that asks us to focus on the essential; to ask ourselves before making a decision if what we are going to do will add value to what we minted to do or not.
This book is a hidden gem. You can thank McKeown for all his genuine efforts by recommending it once you have read. I’ve done my part already. download this book Click Here
- The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton Christensen
The last book of this series from my side is The Innovator’s Dilemma which is a business classic that explains the power of disruption, why market leaders are often set up to fail as technologies and industries change and what incumbents can do to secure their market leadership for a long time.
If the world of technology seems puzzling to you already, now is the right time to read this book since the pandemic has wreaked havoc in our lives. download this book CLick Here
